Model Shoot

March 1, 2016

Georgia Robinson met an enchanting model, Mabel Sims, on a recent camera club outing and encouraged her to perform her magic at our meeting. Bill and Nancy Lester set up background screens, light boxes and electronic flash triggers to mount on our cameras. Then they patiently helped each interested member to learn how to use the synchronized lighting to get properly exposed images of our model.

Mabel, a beautiful woman of Seminole heritage, came ready for the shoot with three complete changes of costume and related accessories. She worked with us in a most agreeable manner, and was always willing to pose as requested by each portriature student.

Scavenger Hunt 2016

Pasco County Fair

Dade City

Cheri Halstead stepped up as the new Scavenger Hunt Chair after the retirement of longtime organizer Charlie Srsich. She sought volunteers from among us and many joined in to form a large and vigorous committee. The group decided upon the Pasco County Fair as the venue and a move to Nikos Restaurant in New Port Richey for the photo judging, and award luncheon. The committee chose digital display of the contestant entries, but otherwise built upon the well established foundation of previous Scavenger Hunt committees. About thirty people attended the fun filled luncheon, photo judging and presentation of awards.

Members Charlie Srsich, Joe Constantino, Georgia Robinson, and Al Oberlander with spouse

Model Shoot April 8th, 2015

On April 8th a portrait photo shoot was scheduled to learn and exercise our knowledge on what it takes to create a great portrait. Under the guidance of Nancy and Bill Lester, and all sorts of their equipment for outdoor and indoor shoots, much was learned about this category. We had the good fortune, also, of having Ron as our model, who was as patient as an angel on top of the fact he photographed beautifully. A large number of members attended and everyone truly enjoyed the time spent. The end results were wonderful and we hope to do this again in the future.

14th Annual Scavenger Hunt - 2015 - Tampa

The Chasco Camera Club held it’s 13th Annual Scavenger Photo Hunt on February 24th, traveling to Downtown Tampa on a somewhat foggy morning, which cleared up after an hour or so. Nineteen members participated, seeking out images of the eight subjects chosen, gathering over 475 total photos, within approximately four hours or less, which also included time out for lunch, with some meeting up with others, discussing their experiences of the day. On March 3rd, at the Hudson Library, all had their images returned as a 3x5 print, making their choice entries for judging, which can be viewed along with this article. Of course, there was the also the usual spread of dessert and beverage to complete the final stage of the event. As usual, it is always a fun day, being another day of photography, but also socializing with fellow members who share equal interests, looking for that different shot. Enjoy our efforts.

Critiquing and Judging Workshop

A special workshop session was held on November 21st by Joe Constantino on the art of “Critiquing and Judging“ and attended by more than twenty members and guests. Random prints were provided and participants were selected to critique and judge. They gained experience and knowledge first hand on the process of assessing and evaluating the merits of an image. In addition printed guidelines were handed out to help attendees gain a better understanding of what to consider in analyzing and understanding both other photographers images and their own images. Many attendees suggested that Joe schedule another session because the information shared was so helpful to them. It was a well organized and successful day.  Thank you Joe.

11th Annual Scavenger Hunt

On February 12th the club held its Eleventh Annual Scavenger Shoot, with their third visit to the Florida State Fair under fair skies. Fifteen members made the trek and the multitude of opportunities made for easy choices to get that special photograph of the desired subjects. Midway rides and the normal horse events were at a minimum, but if one was looking for food there was more than an adequate choice of foods that can only be found at the Fair. It was Senior Day so it was easy to assimilate with the crowds. It’s apparent from early results that most of the subjects were fully covered, with many reloading for additional images taken for future competitions.

Scavenger Hunt Awards Luncheon March 8th, 2011

Have you ever been had reservations to an event and come prepared, only to find out that they didn’t know anything about it? And now you may have to explain to 28 other people that somebody  “ forgot”.  Welcome to the our luncheon on March 8th. Fortunately, that is the beginning, because the event ended well even though a little beyond schedule. Technology is great only when we have control of it. Appears a major player, ( not ours)  hit the wrong tab on the computer and eliminated our activity from the days event. Golf Club workers scrambled along with some of our own people to get this activity on track. The 27 attendees spent additional time socializing until the meals arrived. Well fed judges (all members) had their work cut out for them voting for the winners from 462 images and this years entries had numerous quality images to choose from.

And let us give kudos to Scavenger Shoot Chairperson Cheri Halstead with committee members, Connie Wilson, Georgia Robinson, Carol Gargano, Joe Constantino and Charlie Srsich for another successful Scavenger Shoot and Luncheon, our tenth.

Effort has already commenced for the 11th Annual Scavenger Hunt

10th Annual Scavenger Hunt - 2011 - Ybor City

The twenty fifth of February marked our Tenth Annual Scavenger Shoot as we traversed the streets and shops of Ybor City, a well known and historic enclave of Tampa, and at one time was the “Cigar Capital”. Twenty one members participated, and based on their comments, a good time was had by all. The eight subjects were matched to the area with an abundance of cultural images, people and architecture being favorites.  Ideal weather complimented the activity and the area was easily covered as it is basically nine blocks long by approximately two bocks wide for our shoot.  Nine photographers found themselves in the vicinity of the “La Tropicana Café", a known Cuban eatery, and needed to go no further as lunch was very good with the ambiance flavor of what you what would find in Ybor City. It was mentioned by a participant that there was a tattoo convention going on, but so far, we are unable to ascertain if a member participated in that activity. Many had compliments for the committee and it’s attention to details,  as all ran smoothly.

This years Luncheon was held in a different location, which was well suited to our needs and was well organized with good service and equally good food. Another highlight was the installation of Officers for 2011, which were sworn in by Strat Simon with George Robinson as President, Sarah Hanlon as Vice President, Bill Hanlon as Treasurer and Connie Wilson as Secretary and we wish them a very successful year. A new entry for the club this year was the digital category competition, which has expanded our photographic experiences and knowledge. 9th Annual Scavenger Hunt - 2010 - Heritage Village

The 2010 Scavenger Shoot Luncheon finalized the activities of the Ninth Annual Event at the Cypress Run Golf Club, Tarpon Springs, with thirty three attendees, of which 20 were photo participants. Not to take away from some great photographs taken at the Heritage Village site in Largo, Al Oberlander, our restaurant and food connoisseur, continuously brings us to excellent locations for good food and excellent surroundings. Award winners for each of the eight categories and Best of Show were selected by the member attendees with the  winners and their photographs can be viewed elsewhere at this site. Under the leadership of Cheri Halstead, the committee of Georgia Robinson, Connie Wilson, Carol Gargano, Joe Constantino, Al Oberlander and Charlie Srsich, the activity was again one of the highlights of the Club.  As a matter of record, this has been the most participated Shoot in our history and more than 400 images were taken. The 2010 Shoot is now history, but the 2011 event is already being planned. We congratulate the current Committee for a job well done and all the Club members for their support. Thank You All !
