the following examples clearly show the interrelationship between aperature and focal length taken from a fixed distance of 10-15’ from the subject.

first 70mm

Tip: the larger the aperature the more the background is blurred

now longer focal length-200mm


tip: the longer the focal length the more the background blurs.

the following shots were taken from 5-6’ at F8 119mm focal length

and demonstarte the effect of diffusing light on a model



tip: A diffuser placed between sun (or flash) produces more pleasing portrait light.

the following photos were taken 5-6’ from subject at f8 50mm focal length

tip: a reflector can bring your subject out of the shadows
